Overview

The Truck Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing trucks and heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their safe and reliable operation. They play a crucial role in maintaining fleet vehicles, conducting preventive maintenance, and addressing mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle performance.


Duties

Vehicle Inspection adn Diagnosis:
  • Perform thorough inspections of trucks to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to diagnose problems accurately and efficiently.
Repair and Maintenance:
  • Repair and replace defective parts and components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
Preventive Maintenance:
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of trucks.
  • Inspect and lubricate moving parts, check fluid levels, and perform other preventive maintenance tasks as needed.
Troubleshooting and Testing:
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic techniques and test equipment.
  • Test repaired trucks to ensure they meet performance standards and safety regulations.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts inventory.
  • Complete service reports and documentation in a timely and thorough manner.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a truck mechanic or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of truck systems and components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment, such as scan tools and multimeters.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Certification in truck mechanics or relevant vocational training is preferred.
