Overview

Duties

Surveillance and Monitoring:
  • Security officers monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems to detect and deter suspicious activities or security breaches.
  • They conduct regular patrols of assigned areas to ensure that security protocols are followed and potential security risks are identified and addressed promptly.
Access Control:
  • Security officers control access to secured areas by verifying credentials, issuing visitor passes, and enforcing entry procedures.
  • They may operate security checkpoints, gates, or turnstiles to restrict unauthorized entry and maintain a secure perimeter.
Emergency Response:
  • In the event of emergencies, such as fires, medical incidents, or security threats, security officers respond quickly and effectively to mitigate risks and protect lives and property.
  • They follow established emergency procedures, evacuate people if necessary, and coordinate with emergency services as required.
Security Checks and Inspections:
  • Security officers conduct routine inspections of premises, including doors, windows, fences, and other entry points, to identify vulnerabilities and ensure that security measures are in place and functioning properly.
  • They may inspect bags, packages, or vehicles entering or leaving the premises to prevent theft or unauthorized removal of property.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Good physical condition and stamina are important for security officers, as the job may involve standing for long periods, patrolling premises, and responding to emergencies.
  • Strong observational skills to detect suspicious behavior, security breaches, or safety hazards during patrols or surveillance activities.
  • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and legal requirements related to security operations, including privacy laws, trespassing laws, and use of force regulations.
