Duties

Reading and Interpreting Blueprints:

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, or specifications to determine welding requirements, including materials, dimensions, and welding methods.
  • Identify welding symbols, dimensions, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly of metal components.

Preparation and Setup:

  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, degreasing, or grinding to remove contaminants, rust, or oxidation.
  • Set up welding equipment and select appropriate welding tools, electrodes, or filler materials based on the welding process and material properties.

Welding Techniques:

  • Perform welding operations using various techniques such as arc welding, gas welding, or resistance welding, depending on the specific requirements of the project.
  • Control welding parameters such as voltage, current, and travel speed to achieve optimal weld penetration, fusion, and quality.

Quality Control and Inspection:

  • Inspect welds visually and using non-destructive testing methods to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Repair or rework defective welds by cutting, grinding, or rewelding to achieve the desired quality and integrity.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment or materials.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety procedures during all phases of welding operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in welding preferred.
  • Proven experience as a welder or similar role, with proficiency in various welding techniques and processes.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, welding principles, and materials properties related to metal fabrication and welding.
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle welding equipment, work in various positions and environments, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Attention to detail, precision, and craftsmanship to achieve strong, durable, and aesthetically pleasing welds according to specifications.

The Welder position requires a skilled and experienced individual who can effectively interpret engineering plans, perform welding operations, and ensure the quality and integrity of welded joints in metal fabrication and construction projects.
