Overview

The Steel Installer, also known as a Steel Erector or Ironworker, is responsible for assembling and installing structural steel components in construction projects. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and precise placement of steel beams, columns, and other structural elements to form the framework of buildings, bridges, and other structures.


Duties

Blueprint Interpretation:
  • Interpret and understand blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Identify steel components and understand their placement within the overall structure.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other team members to ensure accurate interpretation of project plans.
Steel Assembly and Rigging:
  • Assemble and rig steel components using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Lift and position steel beams, columns, and other structural elements into place.
  • Ensure proper alignment and fit of steel components according to project specifications.
Installation and Connection:
  • Install steel components according to project plans and engineering standards.
  • Weld, bolt, or rivet steel connections to secure structural elements in place.
  • Verify the integrity and stability of steel structures during installation.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety regulations and procedures at all times.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and industry standards.
Quality Control and Inspection:
  • Conduct quality control inspections to verify the accuracy and completeness of steel installations.
  • Identify and address any defects or issues promptly.
  • Document inspection findings and communicate with project managers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Steel Installer or similar role in the construction industry.
  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency in steel assembly techniques, rigging, and installation methods.
  • Knowledge of welding, bolting, and riveting procedures.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Welding certification and relevant licenses or certifications may be required.
